About Sand River Mara

Set within the Masai Mara Game Reserve, you would be forgiven for thinking that you are actually in a private reserve.  As with all of the Elewana properties, the location was carefully chosen to balance its remoteness with game-viewing opportunities to ensure that great wildlife sightings are not shared with the masses but enjoyed in seclusion. To us, this is the true meaning of a luxury safari experience.

Of course luxury really is the operative word at this tented camp. 16 large tents, including one family tent with 2 ensuite bedrooms and private lounge area, are divided into two separate, but adjoining tented camps ensuring a small camp feel at all times.

Guiding standards at Sand River Masai Mara is of paramount importance to us. Our highly experienced and dedicated camp guides know the area and resident wildlife intimately. Most of Elewana’s guides are, in fact, Kenya Professional Safari Guide’s Association qualified, with many at silver level and going for Gold.

“We are situated very close to the Tanzanian border and our Camp overlooks the Serengeti. Few vehicles venture this far south, so our wildlife encounters tend to be one-on-one” says Tim Allen-Rowlandson, Camp General Manager. “Whilst it is amazing to see the Migration when it crosses this area, most animals are resident, and we have the Big 5 within striking distance all year round.”
