We are proud to welcome the Guyana Tourism Authority to the Emerging Destinations family this month. The Guyana Tourism Authority is the official visitor organization for the nation of Guyana, which lies along the Atlantic Ocean at the top end of South America.

Emerging Destinations is partnering with New York-based Green Team Global, a strategy and communications agency specializing in travel and sustainability. We are supported on the project by CornerSun Destination Marketing and Small Planet Consulting.

Perched at the top end of South America, Destination Guyana is a paradise for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and avid eco-tourists. The country boasts an irresistible combination of breathtaking natural beauty, pristine Amazonian rainforest, world-class birding and spectacular waterfalls blended with a vibrant indigenous culture, rich history and incredibly hospitable and friendly people.

The place that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World  (and by extension Jurassic Park) is South America’s great undiscovered destination. The name Guyana means “Land of Many Waters” in a local Indigenous language, a reference to the 600 miles of navigable rivers, its many waterfalls and the open Atlantic along its coast.

English is the official language of business, education and government. But Guyanese Creole is widespread along the coast, and the nation boasts nine Indigenous (Amerindian) languages. With historic Georgetown as its capital city, Guyana is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Union of South American Nations, as well as the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Although an integral part of South America, Guyana retains strong political, cultural and sporting ties with the English-speaking Caribbean.
