Elewana Collection is now part of a worldwide movement to get rid of plastic bottles by offering permanent stainless steel bottles to guests at all of its lodges, hotels and transportation services in Kenya and Tanzania.

Elewana estimates the campaign will prevent at least 555,000 plastic bottles per year from ending up in East African landfills, roadsides, rivers and the Indian Ocean. That equals about 11 metric tonnes of solid waste each year. And given the fact that each bottle takes around 400 years to biodegrade, that’s a huge load to take off Mother Nature’s already strained back.
