Upcoming Uganda Wildlife Permit Price Increase

In a bid to promote conservation and sustainable tourism, Uganda Wildlife Authority has increased its visitor tariff effective 1^st July 2020. Among other activities that have been affected by the new tariff are the Gorilla permits with an increase from $600 to $700 and chimpanzee trekking permit to $200.

Despite the fact that there’s a $100 increase on Gorilla permits, Uganda’s Gorilla permit still remains the most price friendly when compared to Rwanda’s $1500 per permit.

The conservation tariff is revised occasionally to enable Uganda Wildlife Authority to collect reasonable funds to support conservation projects, marketing and also to give back to the local communities living near gorilla parks.

The good news is that all safaris that are already booked and confirmed with Adventure Consults shall not be affected by the tariff changes. New bookings for safaris running after 1^st July 2020 will have the $700 Gorilla permit price.

As of August 2019, there are 18 Gorilla families in Uganda that are available for visitors.

When to go gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking safaris are open and available throughout the year. The hiking itself can be more arduous in the rainy seasons from April – May and in November. Important to note however, the weather patterns have changed over years and it can rain or shine any time of the year, so we encourage everyone to travel whenever isa  convenient.

When to book Gorilla & Chimpanzee Permits

Given the limited numbers of permits, one needs to plan well into the future. Permits are open to the market two years in advance and are booked with payment on a first come, first served basis.
