With its four distinct mountain ranges to choose from — the Rif, Middle Atlas, High Atlas and Anti Atlas — hiking in Morrocco is an adventure that’s hard to pass up.

In the lush, green Rif Mountains of the far north, trails meander through cedar forests, offering a peaceful escape and a glimpse into the region’s rural lifestyle.

The Middle Atlas are characterized by rolling hills and dense forests, a region of scenic lakes and traditional Berber villages known for its diverse flora and fauna including endangered Barbary macaques.

For something completely different, the Anti Atlas showcases remote oases, ancient kasbahs and dramatic canyons — a totally different facet of Morocco’s topography.

Reaching a snowcapped peak at Mt. Toubkal (13,671-foot/4,167-meter), the legendary High Atlas are the tallest mountains in North Africa. This range offers challenging trails, terraced valleys, ancient Berber settlements and stunning views of the surrounding areas.
