Emerging Destinations welcomes La Yegua Loca Boutique Hotel in southern Chile to our family of cool destinations and companies around the globe.
Tucked into a restored British-style mansion built in 1929, the 15-room hotel occupies a prime location in the city of Punta Arenas just four blocks from the main square and adjacent to the iconic Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint. Many of the rooms offer breathtaking views of the coastal city, historic Strait of Magellan and fabled Tierra del Fuego island on the other side of the water.
Hotel founders Paola Milosevic and Sergio Solar determined from the very start that Yegua Loca’s design and décor should reflect traditions deeply rooted in Chilean Patagonia. For instance, both guest rooms and public areas are filled with original antiques and artworks typical of the sheep and cattle estancias (ranches) created by the Croatian, British, Spanish, Portuguese and Chilote pioneers who settled Patagonia in the late 1800s and early 20th century.
Guest accommodation falls into three categories ranging from standard “Ciudad” rooms to more spacious “Panorámica Premium” and “Panorámica” rooms with balconies overlooking the city and sea.
Restaurant La Yegua Loca offers exquisite regional cuisine, menus that combine traditional recipes conceived by immigrant grandmothers with the finest, freshest produce, seafoods and meats from the Magallanes region. The bar features a fun and unique selection of signature cocktails, complemented by pisco sours, artisanal liqueurs, macerated spirits and non-alcoholic drinks.
The gift shop at La Yegua Loca revives the concept of Patagonia’s pioneer-era pulperías (general stores) with handicrafts made by local artisans, regional gourmet food products, a selection of books and a variety of other Patagonian souvenirs.
