Sandy Salle reports on her experience of exploring Uganda with Adventure Consults.

While gorilla trekking gets a lot of attention, there are lots of other amazing wildlife encounters in Uganda. Chimpanzee trekking is another remarkable wildlife experience available.

With its high population density and Kibale National Park is one of the best places for chimp trekking. ation densities and sightings are most common here. Rangers lead small groups (maximum eight people) into the realm of the chimps. Getting a chance to get up close and personal with the chimpanzees is definitely worth the experience.

The Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch is the home of Uganda’s only white rhinos in Uganda. The ranch also offers rhino trekking, birding tours, nature hikes, night-time nature walks, and a shoebill trek & canoe ride. Six southern white rhinos were introduced to Ziwa in 2006. Since then, there have had many successful births, bringing the number to 41.

The Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of only two places in Africa where you can see tree-climbing lions. It is believed that the lions have adopted this unusual behavior to escape the tsetse flies and the heat of the lower ground. Being perched on a tree branch is also advantageous when it comes to hunting, as they can observe their prey from high above.
