Uganda’s chimpanzee tracking options have increased after Bugoma Forest was officially open for tourism. At the moment, there are two habituated chimpanzee communities comprising of 60-70 chimps.
Bugoma Forest is an iconic location that supports a diversity of other primate species like the grey-cheeked mangabey, vervet monkeys, black-and-white Colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and blue monkeys. The forest is also home to African buffalo, forest elephants, side-stripped jackals, golden cats, Uganda kob antelopes, and more than 225 bird species.
As advocates for primate conservation and sustainable tourism practices, Adventure Consults is excited by the new development as it will lessen the pressure on other chimpanzee tracking spots. New itineraries for Bugoma Forest chimpanzee tracking are available on request and others will be published in their safari section.
Among the other places to see chimpanzees in Uganda are Kibale Forest National Park, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and the Kanio Pabidi section of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area.
