Scheduled for August 22 in Uganda, Tusker Lite Ruwenzori Marathon is considered on of the world’s most beautiful long-distance running events.
This World Athletics Label Road Race — one of only 10 such events on the entire African continent and 200 total worldwide — kicks off on the Equator inside Queen Elizabeth National Park before finishing in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
To achieve that prestigious status, the Tusker Lite Ruwenzori Marathon had to meet stringent international standards including AIMS-certified course measurement and full electronic timing.
Since its inception in 2022, the event has attracted runners from more than 35 countries and has established itself as a destination race combining elite competition, community participation, and tourism.
“This recognition affirms what we have been building since 2022,” says marathon team leader Amos Wekesa. “A race that meets global standards while remaining truly Ugandan.”
