What if we told you there’s a magical spot — a hidden lookout along the famous “W” Circuit — waiting to take your Patagonian experience to the next level?
It’s Británico Viewpoint in the Francés Valley, an iconic overlook with a 360° view of hanging glaciers, soaring granite walls, and peaks that seem to touch the sky. Reached the lofty vista requires a few hours of hiking from the Cuernos Sector in the heart of the “W” trek next to Nordenskjöld Lake.
The name pays tribute to the many British mountaineers who explored this area over the decades and, with their adventurous spirit, mapped this and other remote regions during multiple expeditions. When you stand there, you’re literally walking in the footsteps of explorers who were captivated by the beauty of this landscape.
Reaching Británico Viewpoint takes grit and determination, but it will definitely be one of the highlights of your Patagonia trip. The route from Campamento Italiano is approximately five miles, with an elevation gain of around 2,000 feet (600 meters). The trail leads through dense lenga forest, accompanied by the sound of wind rustling through the branches and the occasional glimpse of curious birds.
