Did you know that Iceland ProCruises can arrange all the details of a self-drive tour of Iceland before or after your voyage with them?

With its spectacular waterfalls, beautiful beaches, active volcanoes, sprawling glaciers, hot springs, geysers and friendly locals, a road trip that combines the highlights of south and west Iceland is a fun, easy way to explore the big North Atlantic island.

IPC’s recommended itinerary includes:

Day 1

Arrive Reykjavik aboard the Seaventure

After disembarkation, fetch your vehicle from the harbor car rental office. Leave the capital behind as you drive toward the south coast. First two nights in a typical Icelandic country inn.

Day 2

South Coast: Waterfalls and Black Beaches

Highlights include the spectacular Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. With the frozen slopes of Myrdalsjokull glacier as a backdrop, admire the black beaches of Vik and dramatic cliffs of Cape Dyrholaey. En route, visit the Lava Centre in Hvolsvollur.

Day 3

Geysers, Gullfoss and Norse Heritage

Get an early start for the Haukadalur geothermal field and the world famous Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall. Then make your way to historic Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s ancient parliament (the Althing) met between 930 and 1799 AD. The day ends near Borgarfjord on the west coast with an overnight in another typical Icelandic country inn.

Day 4

West Coast: Borgarfjord to Reykjavik

Borgarfjord is home to Hraunfossar waterfall as well as the earth’s largest hot springs – Deildartunguhver. Driving via the Hvalfjordur, you should reach Reykjavik around noon. Spend a couple of hours exploring the Icelandic capital with its Nordic charm before dropping off your rental car and overnighting in Reykjavik.

Note: Your rental car tour is also bookable from/to Keflavik Airport.

The IPC package includes:

  • 4-day car rental in corresponding category including unlimited mileage, CDW insurance and 24% Icelandic VAT
  • 4 overnights including breakfast in double room with private bath in typical Icelandic accommodation.
