Looking for an experience that will simply take your breath away? Steer your travel ship toward Guyana to find outstanding adventure and outdoor experiences like magical Kaieteur Waterfall.

Kaieteur is supposedly the world’s tallest single-drop, standalone waterfall, beating out more famous cascades like Niagara, Victoria and Iguazu.

But not everything is about stats and superlatives. The sheer enormity of this wonder and its wilderness location are what leaves you in awe. The Potaro River peacefully flowing through the dense rainforest before suddenly plummeting 741 feet off the escarpment in massive misty spray. A perpetual rainbow during the day adds a charming touch to the scene.

Getting there: Several airlines offer same day round trips from Georgetown’s Ogle Airport to Kaieteur. The flight takes around an hour, with two hours on the ground for a national park guided tour.

Best time to visit: The waterfall is at its magnificent best after the rains, so September-November is an excellent time to go here. You may want to avoid rains since flights may be choppy or may be cancelled.
