Three Travelers — Three Different Amazons

December 9, 2019 - 3 minutes read

They say that each trip is unique, that each traveler lives and grows through experience in their own way. At Jungle Experiences, we invite you to go on board vicariously, through the eyes of three expert travelers exploring a special corner of our planet. They told us about their experience and, through their eyes, we have the opportunity to relive their tales of the magic of sailing the Amazon — onboard a Jungle Experiences cruise.

Kalpana Sunder: Navigating the exotic Peruvian Amazon

Kalpana is a travel writer and Japan expert who believes in serendipity and the power of a hug.

In the quiet routine of her cruise aboard the luxury riverboat MV Zafiro, Kalpana found moments to explore the jungle in depth — as well as moments to simply relax and enjoy the view.

The diversity of species, both flora and fauna, that she discovered in the Amazon surprised even an experienced traveler as herself.

“After some days in the Amazon, we realize that the forest keeps its secrets . . . secret. It’s in the quiet backwaters, creeks and lagoons that we spot wildlife. Each new foray teaches us to be observant and patient. We learn to decipher clues, look at high branches, and watch out for signs like rustling foliage or a swaying bough.

Shikha Shah: Wildlife and indigenous cultures in the Peruvian Amazon

A journalist, travel blogger and self-proclaimed free soul and romantic idealist, Shikha also went into the heart of the Amazon aboard Zafiro and later shared her experience in The Economic Times of India.

The magic of the Amazon showed itself to Shikha from the first moment that she flew over the area, and was able to see the “broccoli floret” trees and “mighty river snaking its way through the deep green.”

She says that the explosion of life that inhabits the Amazon was the most moving detail of her adventure; wild and exotic animal and plant species and, beyond them, native communities living in full contact with nature.

As she shares in her article: “There are many things that you take from the Amazon, most of them intangible and, even so, unforgettable.”

Kareena Gianani: Entering the secret world of the Peruvian Amazon

The Senior Associate Editor of National Geographic Traveler India, Kareena is passionate about traveling, discovering new cities, and collecting souvenirs of all shapes and sizes.

Kareena tells us that while onboard Zafiro, the crew and naturalist guides shared their knowledge on the immensity of the landscape and the greatness of the wildlife that inhabits the Amazon.

“Twenty-one crew members — most of them born in Amazonian villages — worked tirelessly to give me and 14 others an intimate glimpse of a largely secret, fragile ecosystem that not even many Peruvians have explored.”
