Porto: Where Northern Portugal Begins

April 26, 2025 - 1 minute read

Some say that the North of Portugal begins in Porto, others say that it ends there. What is certain is whether it’s the beginning, middle or end, Porto welcomes everything and everyone.

Even for those visiting for the first time, arriving in Porto often feels like coming home. It’s so easy to slide into the local vibe, lounging in one of the city’s many parks, strolling along the waterfront, relishing the silence inside a Baroque church, striding down ancient cobblestone streets, ordering iconic seafood dishes or the region’s out-of-this-world wines with the ease of a local.

And it's not just one thing that makes Porto special. It’s the thrilling blend of history and modernity best expressed by the city’s architectural treasures. It’s a stunning waterfront location that includes a river crossed by spectacular bridges and beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. It’s the blend of work and leisure that characterized local life. It’s a never-ending party and the melancholy expressed by the fado music found in so many restaurants, bars and cafés.

Porto’s doors are wide open. And there’s no better time to step inside than this summer.
