Supporting Bocas Communities and Making a Positive Impact

The paradise Bocas del Toro archipelago of western Panama embraces a tapestry of communities tucked into the lush rainforest or perched along palm-shaded shores.

By nurturing bonds with local communities, La Coralina Island House helps preserve the spirit and vitality of these unique locales as well as the main reason why Boca is such a special place.

Resort guests can tap into the local vibe — and learn a lot more about the local culture and lifestyles — by joining one of La Coralina’s curated community activities. Like a Medicinal Plants and Natural Dyes tour which starts with a boat ride to San Cristobal, where village women lead a guided rainforest walk to show the variety of plants they use to cure disease and treat ailments.

After the walk, they explain step-by-step the making of traditional hand-woven bags and explain the plants they use to dye the fibers. There’s even a chance to take part in the dying process, followed by a homemade lunch served by true locals.
